Jeff Uban
Born in Waterford, Michigan in 1982, Jeff Uban knew that he was to be in the world of music at the age of 4. Jeff immediately started on piano then switched to trumpet at the age of 9. Much of his training is accredited to former principal trumpet of the Detroit Symphony, Frank DiBlassi.
Uban toured the world with the Blue Lake International Jazz Band and Symphony Band while in high school. A few years later, he toured England and performed at Carnegie Hall with the Flint Youth Symphony Orchestra.
Upon graduation, Jeff attended the University of Michigan-Flint for two years, serving as principal trumpet in their concert and jazz bands. In 2002, he transferred to Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan to finish his Bachelor Degree in Music Performance.
While at Grand Valley, Uban studied jazz and classical trumpet with Richard Stoelzel and Kurt Ellenberger. He became a three time national finalist (NTC Jazz Competition), "Jazz Scholarship Winner" (ITG), and named "Outstanding Soloist" at the Elmhurst, Aquinas, and University of Northern Colorado (Greeley) Jazz Festivals.
Currently, Jeff is finishing his Master's degree at Denver University where he directs the University Jazz Ensemble as a graduate assistant. He writes the majority of the music performed by his own group, The Jeff Uban Quartet. Outside of jazz, he has written pop, gospel, classical, and trumpet ensemble literature, much of which is being played and broadcast around the nation.
Along with presenting clinics and master classes, Jeff has recorded multiple studio recordings with various artists, including the National Cinemas and has toured with the Broadway show "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers." Past performance engagements have been in the company of Wynton Marsalis, Jim McNeely, Lynn Seaton, Rob Smith, Tim Froncek, Todd Reynolds, Rob Foster, the Kurt Ellenberger Trio, Sunny Wilkinson, Rayna English, Orquesta Sensacional, Grand Rapids Jazz Orchestra, Truth in Jazz Orchestra, Greg Gisbert, John Fedchock, Dennis DiBlasio and Jovino Santos Neto.
