Peter Auricchio
Peter Auricchio is a classically trained trumpet player from the suburbs of New York City and was very fortunate to have grown up in a musical and creative environment. In high school, he studied and performed both classical and jazz music on a regular basis. Peter received his Bachelor of Music in Trumpet Performance degree from the Boston University College of Fine Arts in 2003. While at BU he studied with Terry Everson, an accomplished recital soloist and freelancer in the Boston area. In 2002, Peter placed runner up in the ITG Mock Orchestral Audition Competition. Though his degree program in Boston was entirely classical, Peter always found time to play jazz and contemporary music with his friends or through gigging around town with the Black Tie Affair Orchestra. After his graduation form BU, Peter went on the road for 8 months with the “NETworks Presents” National Broadway Tour of Cole Porter’s Kiss Me Kate! Since the fall of 2005, Peter has been pursuing a Master of Music Degree in Trumpet Performance (with a Jazz Emphasis) here at the Lamont School of Music in Denver, CO. He is studying with assistant professor Alan Hood and in his first year placed runner up in the Lamont Concerto Competition and has played principal trumpet in the Lamont Orchestra. His brass quintet, under the supervision of Lamont’s director Joe Docksey, also placed runner up in the Lamont Chamber Music Competition. With the help of the unbelievably caring and motivational faculty here at the Lamont School of Music, Peter is once again honing his classical playing under the guise of being a student. In addition to that, the jazz emphasis in his degree is keeping him quite busy with bebop changes and big band charts. Peter plans to spend the rest of his life playing the trumpet and expanding his understanding of music and the world around him to the highest level possible. Music is a language with endless possibilities, many of which are in our history and even more are in our future. Groove is Paramount!
